I was among the very lucky group attending the Happiest Celebration on Earth Press Event at MGM on May 4th. One of the evening’s features was a concert with Ashanti and Smash Mouth.

Being the mature adult that I am, the first thing I did when I heard about who was performing was call my kids and say, “GUESS WHO I’M GOING TO SEE?!” This was followed by my asking “what song did they do?” After a lot of humming and “you know this song Mom” I had it figured out.

The concert was held in the Epic Stunt Theatre which is home to the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. In keeping with the evening’s espionage theme, there were two martini booths. One was marked “Shaken”, the other marked “Stirred.” I got myself a Cosmopolitan with an illuminated swizzle stick (stirred if you’re wondering), and sat down.

The first to perform was Ashanti. She’s absolutely beautiful and has a lovely voice. The only problem, how many ways can you sing the word “baby?” We definitely noticed a pattern. Every single song was about oh baby, my baby, believe me baby, where’s my baby and baby, baby be mine. We’re still not sure if she sang several songs or just one very long song about her baby baby baby.

Next they introduced Joey Fatone of N’Sync fame who did the intro for Smash Mouth. They got the place rocking when they began with “I’m a Believer.” Everyone was on their feet and never sat down until their segment was over. From here we were ushered out to the Sorcerer’s Hat where a fashion show was being held. The models strutted their stuff to James Bond style tunes. The clothes were pretty out there, but not being up on the latest spy fashion wear, I’ll reserve judgment. (However, I really hope that wearing a skirt made of Mylar balloons doesn’t catch on.)

The grand finale was a spectacular fireworks display. The skies were lit up as round after round went off. It was the perfect ending to a unforgettable evening. Click Here for Fireworks Photos
