NOTE: Name change effective 3/1/2001, now Port Orleans Riverside Resort Maximum persons per room: 4 (plus child in
crib) Credit Cards Accepted: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and the Disney Credit Card. Resort Description The antebellum South along the old Mississippi is the theme of the Dixie Landings. Here you will find a combination of the great plantation mansions and bayou villages. There are four mansion style buildings and 16 bayou, all connected by bridges to the Ol' Man Island pool/fishing area. The Sassagoula River winds through the resort. Award-winning, spectacular gardens and fountains are the mainstays of the mansion areas. The smell of the magnolia blossoms as you walk along the picturesque riverside walkways, is divine. In the Alligator Bayou, you'll find Cajun style brick or stucco lodges with wide front porches and rough hewn railings. These are set amidst dense moss hung pine forests and creeks. ROOMS: As with most moderately priced resort rooms, the rooms here are 314 square feet. A typical room has 2 double beds, an armoire, a nightstand, a TV, a small table with 2 chairs, a luggage rack and 2 pedestal sinks with mirrors that are in a vanity area separate from the tub and commode. Some rooms are available with a king size bed. These are the handicap accessible rooms and have wheelchair-accessible showers in place of tubs. Another special feature found only at the Dixie Landings, are the trundle beds. These are small beds, just big enough for a child under the age of 9, that pull out from underneath a larger bed. These are available in the Alligator Bayou section only. TIPS: For a room close to the main building/food court, ask for the Oak Manor (mansion) or Alligator Bayou buildings 14, 15 or 18. For a room close to the main pool, (Ol' Man Island), ask for the Arcadian House or Magnolia Terrace (mansions) or Alligator Bayou buildings 27 or 38. The closest buildings to the bus depots would be the Arcadian House and Magnolia Terrace or Alligator Bayou buildings 24, 34 or 37. DINING: The food court, Colonel's Cotton Mill, is arguably one of the best at WDW. A large water wheel that turns large gears, like an operating cotton press, is the main showpiece here. Food court hours are 6 a.m. to midnight. You'll find baked goods, pizza, pasta, fresh fruit, hamburgers, fried chicken, Tex-Mex favorites and full breakfasts here. Boatwright's Dining Hall is themed around shipbuilding and has a large boat hull, in the process of being built, that hangs from the ceiling. Boatwright's is open for breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and for dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The menu features steaks, prime rib, seafood and barbecued ribs, and Cajun specialties. Room service is limited to pizza, salads, soft drinks and beer and is available from 4 p.m. to midnight. TIP: Try the Pralines from the bakery at the Cotton Mill food court! These Southern specialties are delectable "cookie-like" creations made of brown sugar and pecans. POOL/RECREATION: The main pool area is found on Ol' Man Island. Here you'll find a large pool with a water slide, a spa, a kiddie pool and a playground. Five quiet pools are spread throughout the resort area. There are changerooms/restroom facilities at each pool. Guests of Dixie Landings are welcome to use the pool facilities at its sister resort next door, Port Orleans, as well. Besides swimming, there are many other "water-related" activities to be found here. Fish for catfish, bluegill and bass at the Fishin' Hole, a catch and release pond. A 2 hour guided fishing excursion down the Sassagoula River, can be reserved at Guest Services. The use of rods, reels, tackle and a beverage are included in the fee. Boat and paddle boat rentals are also available. Renting a bicycle or Surrey bike to tour the riverside path to Port Orleans is loads of fun. The Medicine Show Arcade is found in the main building. Another perk of being a guest of Dixie Landings is the free Sassagoula River cruise to the Downtown Disney Marketplace. This cruise runs approximately every 20 minutes and takes about half an hour.
