Aruba
Town
and Countryside Tour (Approximately 3 hours)
From
your cruise ship's dock you will be taken via
air conditioned motorcoach down L.G. Smith Blvd.
to Oranjestad harbor, in the capital city of Aruba,
and along the way you'll see open air fruit markets
and fish markets as you head towards Wilhelmina
Park. The park is named after Queen Wilhelmina
of Holland and it is surrounded by beautiful tropical
gardens and plantlife. From the park you will
proceed to Wilhelminastraat which is lined with
colonial Dutch style buildings and houses and
tell a tale of Aruba's first permanent European
settlers. From here you will go to the historic
battlefield of Frenchmen Pass where the native
inhabitants fought the French to stop foreign
invaders from taking over the island. It was here
that gold was discovered in 1824 and began Aruba's
first major export and industry. On your way to
Noord, a small city which features St. Ann's church
you will pass the famous natural bridge (a 25
foot high, 100 foot long coral formation which
transverses untamed waters). In Noord you will
have the option of staying in town to explore
and shop or you can return to your ship.
*Note:
For those who are choosing to stay in town it
is about a 5 minute walk back to the ship.
