This is reminiscent of the quaint villas of the turn of the century Key West. The physical layout of the resort is themed to the Keys as a grouping of islands (or "keys") that are connected by bridges to the festive village of clapboard buildings topped with tin roofs. The "Trumbo Canal", the resort's intracoastal waterway winds through the "keys". The lush landscaping with its flowering bushes, tropical plants and swaying palm trees are found amidst the waterways that wind throughout this large, spread out resort. In typical Disney style, the detail extends to shell and starfish imprints in the cement walkways and the "not so hidden" Mickey heads in the ornate white railings.
Disney's Old Key West Resort is a Disney Vacation Club resort, but a specific number of rooms are made available to the general public on a per night basis as with any other Disney resort. Guests checking in to Disney's Old Key West Resort do so at Hospitality House. Soft pastel-colored murals create a soothing, relaxed atmosphere. Adjacent to the lobby you will find Papa's Den, a reference reading library that features only authors who lived or wrote in, Key West. A masculine touch is found in the hardwood floors, Oriental rugs and stuffed marlin over the fireplace with comfortable chairs to kick back, relax and enjoy the works of the fine books found here.
